Threats and commitments

Chapter 4 introduces dynamic games. The most important concept of dynamic games is non-credible threats and commitments. Non-credible threats mean that the optimum is different before and after the fact, meaning sometimes, a Pareto optimum cannot exist. Commitments turn non-credible threats into credible ones, which instead benefit social cooperation. We also discuss the commitment function of constitutional government and the democratic system.
