ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book describes femicide within the legal framework of the American Model Penal Code because of the Code's enormous influence and leading role in shaping state criminal codes. It discusses the legislative proposal to amend the Model Penal Code as it relates to the various relevant criminal doctrines applicable to femicide. The prevailing legal structure precludes the provision of adequate and uniform legal justice for victims, leading to tragic legal consequences for women throughout the United States (US). The book also discusses legal criminal doctrines in the US that may provide a significant contribution to legal discourse in many other countries with legal structures similarly steeped in English common law. It examines the legal and criminological aspects of femicide, a phenomenon that is prevalent worldwide and is therefore relevant to countries other than the US.
