ABSTRACT

Psychotherapy is, therefore, a personal rather than a technical undertaking. Even though ‘technique’ and ‘technical knowledge’ are significant at times, these have to become uniquely part of someone (the therapist) in the particular relationship-of-the-moment with someone else (the client). In this situation where we are really trying to undertake what we know, feel, and imagine, it is important for developing therapists to work towards some personal integration of what is involved for them in this role they are undertaking, this part of their own lives.
