ABSTRACT

The Kelabit Highlands Community Museum Development Project was pursued between 2011 and 2016 in Sarawak, East Malaysia. This chapter explains the conceptual framework for understanding the project, which aimed to establish a community museum in the town of Bario. The project was a process of cultural development that utilised participatory action research and was designed to assist the Rurum Kelabit Sarawak to achieve agency and authority over the conservation of heritage values and the representation of identity.
