ABSTRACT

The Kelabit Highlands Community Museum Development Project was intended to be a community-led response to the threats to heritage conservation and cultural identity. The engagement with the community was critical and was pursued through a process of participatory action research, which included a number of discrete processes. This chapter is focused on the methodologies employed in the project, including the articulation of values through a design process, the nature of a cross-cultural research partnership and the tools of community focused participatory fieldwork.
