ABSTRACT

The noted Kannada litterateur Devanoor Mahadeva has been an important voice in the reasoning of Karnataka politics; playing a significant role in the articulation of issues related to Dalits and farmers. He has developed a view of Karnataka politics from below that is influential in both academic and political circles. This view sees the ideas of Gandhi and Ambedkar as being very different but not inconsistent. In this chapter, Bageshree Subbanna., in consultation with Devanoora Mahadeva, pieces together elements from his varied writing and speeches to come up with a consistent enunciation of his ideas, in his words.
