ABSTRACT

When Lily Casura began investigating the problem of homelessness among women military veterans she realized she might have a hard time finding them. She put out a survey on an online forum for female veterans and got responses within 24 hours. Some 400 women who had served in the military ended up filling it out. Once she reached out, women wanted to talk to her. In 2016, a team of reporters from ProPublica began working with National Public Radio reporters Renee Montagne and Nina Martin to explore why more women in the United States die in childbirth than do women in other developed nations. Sarah Wolstoncroft said students visited two homeless encampments: one near Angel Stadium and the other near the Santa Ana Civic Center. Drange said that he also found a website where patients and their families would leave reviews.
