ABSTRACT

This overview introduces the participants who were teaching, taking, designing, and overseeing blended courses in the present study. The 103 instructor participants represent 52 language programs, and the 18 administrator participants represent 16 language programs, principally at state universities but also at community colleges and a few private universities. Thirteen languages were represented, with the majority of participants working with Spanish. Slightly over half of the instructors were graduate students. The 35 students were taking blended courses in Spanish, French, German, or Italian from six of the instructor participants at one institution. Other participant features provided in this chapter include instructors’ and administrators’ academic background, teaching experience, experience with blended learning, reasons for going blended, and level of input into the course design.
