ABSTRACT

This chapter considers a range of issues surrounding charting an individual’s physical literacy journey. To set the scene, the notion of physical literacy as a journey is outlined briefly. This is followed by discussions concerning the importance of any system of charting the journey being in line with the philosophy underpinning the concept and the definition of physical literacy. The current IPLA charting matrix proposal is then discussed, followed by a brief survey of some of the problems that have dogged the development of instruments to chart progress. The second part of the chapter comprises a brief survey of some of the schemes across the world that have been developed to track individuals’ physical literacy journeys. These are written by key personnel involved in the design and use of the instrument.
