ABSTRACT

This chapter covers a variety of practical business aspects of clinical practice including use of social media, the web, marketing, expanded modalities, fee structures, and so on. Many therapists are reluctant to embrace the business aspects of clinical practice for a variety of reasons. Therapists feel that interest in moneymaking- may conflict with the values of being a “helper.” Therapists are not trained to create and implement business plans that will enhance their business practices and provide a lucrative career. This chapter gives encouragement and practical advice geared to the creation of a successful business platform that includes hiring specialists to help manage technology, marketing, and social media interface as well as billing and accounting. The chapter teaches therapists to define their approach allowing for targeted marketing. The exercise of clarifying the therapist’s method, style, and uniqueness acts to refine their approach. The chapter includes other topics: expanding creative options, marketing ideas, and providing a therapist’s crib sheet. The crib sheet is a valuable list of personal and professional aids in creating personal health and success as a clinician.
