ABSTRACT

Capitalization is a writing trap. When writers are unsure of the rules, they have a tendency to capitalize too many words. And sometimes when they are “sure of the rules,” they also capitalize too many words. For e-communication, unsure writers sometimes put everything in lower case . . . or everything in all capital letters, both of which garner negative responses in professional environments. In this chapter, you learn basic guidelines so that you can make correct decisions about capitalization, and some of those rules may surprise you.
