ABSTRACT

In sociology, two citation systems are used, one published by the American Psychological Association (APA) and the other by the American Sociological Association (ASA). These citation systems apply the author-date method of in-text citation. Basic information for both of these systems is explained and illustrated, and differences between the two are highlighted. The formatting guidelines presented here are APA and ASA requirements for manuscript publication. Since your professors might have different requirements, always check with individual professors to make sure that you are adapting your formatting for your specific audience.
