ABSTRACT

<Abstract: Chapter 2 focuses on risk assessment. The aim of the chapter is to equip the practitioner with the necessary tools to make quick and accurate assessments of sexual recidivism risk in convicted sexual offenders; that is, defensible assessments that are as accurate and evidence-based as possible, and that would stand up to scrutiny if challenged. A number of key principles are discussed, before providing an overview of some of the most commonly used risk assessment tools, including both static and dynamic approaches. The meaning of risk variables in terms of their implication for risk is explored at length, before concluding with a five step guide to support confident and competent risk assessments.>
