ABSTRACT

<Abstract: Chapter 3 focuses on personality. The aim of this chapter is to try to put some of the technical arguments about diagnosis to one side in order to provide a clear model for understanding psychological difficulties for the offender that are both persistent and pervasive. The emphasis is on building the knowledge and confidence of the non-specialist practitioner and, to this end, the chapter focuses on understanding the ways in which attachment theory can help with an understanding of behaviour that otherwise may appear challenging. The chapter focuses on this bio-psycho-social approach and provides case examples to outline an accessible model for formulation.>
