ABSTRACT
The company manufactures a range of inexpensive whitewood furniture, and its main customers are multiple stores and department stores. The national body is the British Furniture Manufacturers’ Federated Association. Beecham’s is a very large public company employing at the beginning of 1968 over 15,000 people at home and abroad. Beecham Pharmaceutical Division is concerned with research laboratories and the manufacture of pharmaceuticals. The company exports directly 50 per cent of its output, and about another 25 per cent indirectly by supplying manufacturers with engines that are incorporated in final products. The Company is essentially a charitable organization and membership is by election. Osway Limited is a private company founded in 1954. There are two working directors—Mr O. C. Otterway, the managing director and major shareholder, and Mr F. W. J. Austin, production director. Petters manufacture a wide range of diesel engines up to 45 bhp, some of which are air-cooled engines and others water-cooled.
