ABSTRACT

The Association, in December 1967, had 170 ordinary members and eighty-one associate members. In 1968, the Association had an income of £000000 including £00000 from the Food Machinery Association for its share in the cost of administrative services. The Association occupies premises near Trafalgar Square and shares offices with the Food Machinery Association. The Association supplies its members with a number of commercial services, which include negotiations with the Board of Trade about duty on imported chemical machinery. As with most trade associations, relations with government are important and take up a great deal of time and effort. In 1966 four members of the Association left and established the British Chemical Engineering Contractors’ Association and a visit was made to the director of that Association. The Association has emphasized that while supporting a central organization, it believes that its success will depend on continued support for specialist associations.
