ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book discusses the philosophy of social science to conduct research. Paradigms are the theoretical mindsets or beliefs that underlie the research approach. The book introduces the elements of the research process. It focuses on analysing qualitative data and looks at the key principles of qualitative data storage, coding and analysis. The book provides an in-depth discussion on the various stages of the research and how to develop a research proposal. It presents a framework to conduct the review literature and what is meant by a critical review. The chapter explains how to use quantitative research methods to study a phenomenon. It introduces the use of the internet as a tool to engage in research. The chapter concerns writing up the research, which is arguably the most significant element of the entire research process.
