ABSTRACT

This book fills some gaps in the literature about wind turbines, since most of it addresses the design challenges of big machines, that is bigger than 16 m in diameter, and the economical optimization of onshore or offshore wind farms. The reason the author of the book decided to write on small wind turbines, including both horizontal and vertical axis types, both action and reaction families, and both for electricity and for water pumping, is because small wind turbines are a key factor for creating a decarbonized economy and ensuring sustainable development for future generations. The book presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book, where each chapter contains a section with the basic theory, a section with practical applications and a section with exercises and numerical examples.
