Child protection also falls under the terms of safeguarding children and involves the promotion of welfare and relates to protecting children who are suffering or are likely to suffer from harm. In 2015, Working Together to Safeguard Children became a key statutory guidance for anyone who works in England with children. This chapter explores the importance of safeguarding and protecting pupils within the classroom. It aims to define the term “safeguarding”. The chapter presents legislation and statutory guidance in the area of Safeguarding and Child Protection. It examines the school culture around safeguarding, including the training of staff. The chapter reviews the role of Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills in inspecting Safeguarding and Child Protection. It outlines the importance of information sharing and the multi-agency approach. The chapter explains the importance of the voice of the child in this area. It explores the Prevent strategy as it relates to safeguarding.
