ABSTRACT

In the preceding chapters, we have discussed a wide range of strategies you can incorporate into your lessons to increase rigor. Many of those learning activities result in a product that can be used to assess learning. Now, we’ll shift our attention to the critical aspects of evaluation and assessment. We’ll start with principles of effective assessment and increasing the rigor of a variety of types of questions and test items, which I’ve condensed and excerpted from Rigor and Assessment in the Classroom (2017). Then we’ll turn our attention to grading.
