ABSTRACT

The Delaware Memorial Bridge comprises two parallel suspension bridges crossing the Delaware River. Each bridge has a main span of 2150 ft. and side spans of 750 ft. The First Bridge was opened in 1951 and the Second Bridge in 1968. The bridges are owned and operated by the Delaware River & Bay Authority (DRBA). AECOM are the DRBA’s Engineer for this modified Design Build Contract to install a dehumidification system on the main cables and are also carrying out the construction management. The RFP was advertised in the fall of 2015, for what is now only the second such project in the United States. The ongoing contract, which started in 2016, is being executed by American Bridge Company. Apart from the main cable dehumidification installation, other tasks have included, cable band bolt tightening and suspender replacements. Project completion is scheduled for June 2018.
