ABSTRACT

Hysteria is the classical subject matter of psychoanalytical investigation; as a matter of fact, the psychoanalytic method was first discovered, tested and perfected through the study of hysterical patients; the technique of psychoanalysis still remains most easily applicable to cases of hysteria and it is the psychoanalytical treatment of hysteria that continues to yield our best therapeutic results. Too, it is the study of hysterical phenomena that furnishes us with convincing proof as to the correctness of the psychoanalytic general theory of neuroses and it is this study that laid the foundation for the further investigation of other mental phenomena.
