ABSTRACT

Earnestness is the next positive feeling that we suggest, and it is one that to-day is rather notoriously lacking. There are too many people who are not really interested in, or keen upon, their work, and in consequence their attitude towards it is lacking in earnestness. We find too much of the “don’t care” disposition, and nobody could poosibly suggest this as a basis of success; but some reason for this is probably to be found in the casual and haphazard way in which people tumble into their work. Only in the last few years has any scientific attempt been made to suit the individual to his task, and quite notoriously the world is full of misfits. People are compelled to labour at tasks which do not interest them in the least, while all the time they are hungering for work which would be congenial and for which they are by nature fitted.
