The Flapper

A fourteen-year-old, another style, entertains me in the library while her parents are dressing. "Isn't it wonderful," her eyes shine as if she might be going to a hockey match, "that they are finding the typhoid germ can cure syphilis?" She is cool, poised, informed; she could conduct a trip to China if need be. I think what kissing she does will be done without lying, but that for a time at least there will not be very much; she seems to me to know entirely too much about sanitation.
