ABSTRACT

As teachers, you can work with queer families in schools as a way of learning to step up for LGBTQ and gender diverse students. By queer families, we mean families who have children who identify as something beyond heterosexual hegemony, such as but not limited to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and gender diverse, or children who are questioning their sexual and gender identities. 1 But we also mean families in which the parents 2 identify in these ways. It is our contention that by paying attention to the ways that queer parents shape the experiences of their children in schools, teachers might be better equipped to serve these families.
