ABSTRACT

This chapter presents brief descriptions of a number of other career possibilities, and includes interviews with a children's librarian, children's museum employee, and a children's minister. Some of these careers represent full-time jobs and some represent part-time, supplemental jobs. The chapter looks at nanny jobs. Nannies are seen as a traditional job in the field of child and adolescent development. They care for the children, provide discipline or guidance for the children, "educate" the children informally, and even parent the children. Foster care parents temporarily care for children whose parents are unable to do so because of health reasons or legal issues. Foster care parent agencies usually share responsibility for providing the children's needs. Recreational therapists can work in a variety of settings, such as schools, medical facilities, community centers, or nonprofit organizations.
