ABSTRACT

Moving from the academic environment of college (even one that includes a lot of practical experience or insists on internships) to actually getting out there and working at what the student spent the last four years of life preparing for is a major life transition. Even with the benefit of internships, the real working world will be very different from college, laden with any number of unexpected events and experiences. This chapter talks about managing expectations in the workplace and outlines some basic differences between companies, so that graduates can make educated choices as to who, given the opportunity, they really want to work for.
