ABSTRACT

The game industry has expanded tremendously over the last twenty years and is seeking more and more graduates to fill its positions. Academia has expanded to meet these demands, and now at least 700 colleges and universities offer undergraduate programs in game-related degrees. This chapter discusses the multitude of options facing potential college students and guides them in selecting schools and classes that will not only suit them but will ultimately place them in a good position to achieve employment in the game industry. The authors caution the college applicant to steer clear of institutions that cannot deliver on an education that can actually lead to work in the game industry. The chapter discusses, in broad strokes, the sorts of course work that can be expected in a contemporary college program in game design or game development.
