ABSTRACT

It is almost inevitable that at some stage, some people who work in the game industry will consider working for themselves. This may have been their intention from the start, or it may have developed as they gained experience, or it could even be forced on them. No matter how this idea pops into their minds, this chapter outlines the benefits, pitfalls, and disadvantages of working for oneself so readers are in a better position to make up their minds if “going it alone” is really for them. It also discusses the most common ways of approaching self-employment, both as a true solo or as a small startup company.
