ABSTRACT
Many feminists have maintained that there is a tie between the way in which women are portrayed in the arts and in popular entertainment and the way in which women are treated. Crenshaw examines this claim from the standpoint of black women and violence against black women. She maintains that stereotypical media representations of black women incite violence against them, discredit victims’ accounts of the harm inflicted on them, and trivialize their suffering.
