ABSTRACT

Card defines luck as that which is beyond the control of the individual, and she stresses that luck includes the predictable consequences of social practices, including oppressive social practices. Thus, she takes up the question of how male dominance has affected women’s moral luck—what responsibilities have fallen to women, whether the relationships women participate in, such as heterosexual relationships, are desirable to sustain, what moral insights are available from the vantage point of women’s position under patriarchy, and what moral damage results from sex oppression.
