Logic and Linguistic Definition in Science

The second observation to be made about the methods of science is that contrary to prevailing opinion science does not constitute a paradigm or model of formal logical thinking, in the sense that at every step of the way its thought is controlled by the canons of inductive and deductive logic. Clearly, if it were there could be no intellectual wanderings such as are depicted by Fig. 1b-unless, of course, science were purely empirical, which manifestly it is not.
