On the background provided thus far by the theories reviewed, some additional theses can now be proposed. To make these intelligible, it is necessary first to present some working definitions of the main concepts to be employed and some assumptions on their context. As has been remarked, concepts mean what we tell them to mean. To avoid confusion, we must therefore establish what we do, in fact, tell our concepts to mean in this analysis.
