ABSTRACT

Bion spoke of passion as evidence of the linking of two minds. Utilizing concepts developed by Freud, Isakower, and Bion, this chapter will explore how unconscious material may be communicated from patient to analyst, and then interpreted to the patient in a manner to facilitate growth. As an example of these conceptualizations as they may be encountered in a treatment situation, clinical material is presented from the treatment of a gang-involved adolescent girl.
