ABSTRACT

The Jagiellonians ruled over vast territories inhabited by Eastern Slavs and dominated by the Orthodox Church; that is, the lands of former Kievan Rus' annexed by Lithuania. The incorporation of Lithuanian, Ukrainian, Polish and Belarusian lands into the Russian empire that had occurred after the Partitions of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the late eighteenth century drew the attention of Russians to this region and its history. Radio programs about Lithuanian and Polish history in Russian are rare, but two podcasts from the radio station 'Ekho Moskvy' deserve our attention. Electronic media have demonstrated another tendency of Russian 'commemorative strategies': an attempt to 'nationalise' important events in the history of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, such as the Grünwald battle of 1410. Films related to the history of the Jagiellonians in the Russian language have been produced by Belarusian filmmakers. Films related to the history of the Jagiellonians in the Russian language have been produced by Belarusian filmmakers.
