ABSTRACT
The Unix environment can be tailored and personalized for the individual user. In this chapter, we will discuss the ways users create and maintain their own personal environment. We will explain the function of shells along with major differences of the three most popular shells. We will also identify software that is not actually part of Unix, but is commonly present in Unix environments.
