ABSTRACT

The scientific literature lacks sufficient data on the dynamic, nondestructive characterization of wood material, wood-based composites, or wooden structures operating in hostile environmental conditions (Meyer and Kellog, 1982). Little basic data are available on the relationship between the microstructural features induced by adverse environmental conditions and physical parameters able to be deduced by nondestructive techniques. Within this context the full potential of ultrasonic techniques is yet to be realized.
