ABSTRACT

The most important parameter to measure by tracer and other techniques is how well the individual, as well as total muscle cells of myocardium, perform metabolically. The coronary blood flow could be determined in the animal model by implanting a Doppler ultrasound probe or electromagnetic flow meter, and the diameter of coronary vessel is measured by angiography. Inert gases diffuse freely across endothelial and myocardial cells-membranes. Therefore, clearance or washout of radionuclides of inert gases from the injected depot depends on blood flow. Long-chain fatty acids in the interstitial or intracellular fluid are bound to soluble proteins and are transported across mitochondrial membrane by acyl coenzyme A carnitine transferases specific for chain length. Myocardial perfusion scintigraphy with particulate indicators and diffusible indicators attempts to evaluate myocardial viability by determining regional myocardial blood flow. It is assumed that perfused myocardium is viable.
