18.b.1. Ashton, H., Effect of smoking on carboxyhaemoglobin level in pregnancy, Br. Med. J., 1, 42—43, 1976. Number of puffs per cigarettes decreased during pregnancy from 14.6 to 11.4 and rose postnatally to 12.9. Increase in carboxy-hemoglobin levels decreased as pregnancy advanced from 3.2 to 1.1% and rose again after birth to 1.8%. Levels of nicotine did not change during pregnancy.
