ABSTRACT
The determination of the appropriate levels of reliability for incorporation into an equipment procurement specification is a complex procedure involving the evaluation of a large number of factors and the use of tradeoff analyses to arrive at an optimum level. It is an iterative process which follows the logic shown in Fig. 1.5. The process is driven by the overall objective to meet safety/plant availability requirements at minimum life cycle cost.
