ABSTRACT

In spite of the overenthusiastic leaps into new technologies, client/server computing is winning favor as a vehicle for providing both the information and the agile systems required to compete in the 1990s' global marketplace. Whereas mistakes have been made in terms of development and implementation, client/server technology is bringing improvements. Developers of client/server systems need a current and practical approach to help estimate project size or to validate estimates formulated by other means. This chapter presents the estimating technique that is intended to be used specifically for client/server development. Delivering the project within or close to the estimate is always an issue, no matter what technique is used for estimation. The process of managing the project and meeting expectations continues to become more difficult and complex.
