ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book draws some general knowledge of job quality in the era of flexibility. It presents emerging issues on job quality, points at relevant areas for future research and discusses implications for policy makers concerning measures to improve working condition on job quality in an era of flexibility. The book analyses the development of job quality policy discourse in the European Union (EU) between 1995 and 2016, to show a development from more employee focus to an employer focus. It describes deregulation of Employment Protection Legislation (EPL) and its effects on job security and employability during the Great Recession in 2008 and the following year. The book shows the fact that trade unions adapt to strategies for flexibility proposed by management and assimilates market values.
