ABSTRACT
Boko Haram, named the world’s deadliest terror group of 2014, is probably also the leader in assassinations. The group assassinated several members of the political class, district heads and moderate clerics in a narrative that saw Wahabi extremism attempting to muscle moderate Islam. The assassins targeted five first-class emirs. 1 The Emir of Gwoza, HRH Alhaji Idrissa Timta was shot dead. The insurgents also attempted to assassinate a former head of state, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd.) who is now the President of Nigeria.
