ABSTRACT

Cassava (Manihot esculenta) ranks among the top ten food crops in the world. It is an all-season crop of the humid tropics where its starchy root provides the staple food for over 500 million people (Lancaster et al., 1982). Although the cassava root is essentially grown for human food, there is increasing interest in its use as an animal feed. This aspect has been considered elsewhere in this book (Oke, 1990).
