ABSTRACT
Solvent extracted soybean meal, a by-product of the oil-seed industry, remains the single largest source of supplemental protein used by livestock producers in North America. Its popularity can be attributed to several factors including its widespread availability, its high protein, lysine and energy content as well as its palatability. Although soybean meal tends to be cost competitive, alternative protein sources must continue to be examined.
