ABSTRACT

Tropical, humid regions usually have a high incidence of cloud cover, immense amounts and rates of precipitation, poor soil drainage, very high soil moisture and tremendous plant pest and disease burdens. Cereal crops are affected much more by these factors than root and tuber crops. Yet governments and individuals spend more money and time attempting to cultivate cereal grains than they spend in cultivating root and tuber crops. Part of the reason for this may be the scarcity of information on the chemical and nutritional qualities of tuber and root crops for animal feeding.
