ABSTRACT

Triticale (Tricicale hexaploide) is a relatively new, synthetic small-grain crop that was produced by crossing Durum wheat with rye. The goal of plant breeders in developing triticale was to combine the high crude protein and digestible energy content of wheat with the high yields and protein quality of rye. Its name was derived by combining Triticum, the botanical name for wheat, with Secale, the botanical name for rye.
