ABSTRACT
A notable feature of the N-nitrosamines is the organ specificity of their carcinogenic effects. It is generally accepted that reactive metabolic products of the compounds are the initiators of the tumor production, but the basis for the organ specificity has not been clearly established. However, of importance in this respect may be the ability of the organs to metabolize the different N-nitrosamines.
