ABSTRACT
The carcinogenic potential of ionizing radiation has been recognized for many years and many comprehensive reviews of radiation carcinogenesis have been published. 1-4 While it is not the purpose of this chapter to review this field, the reader unfamiliar with this subject will undoubtedly benefit from a brief general discussion of the subject, as an understanding of the basic aspects of radiation effects is essential to understanding the information to follow.
