ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the morphologic description and the classification based on people long experience and the study of 256 cases, the single largest group of the canine and feline nasal and paranasal neoplasms which examined under one roof. Neoplasms in the nasal passage of the dog and cat are considered rare. Intranasal neoplasms of ethmoidal olfactory origin, which are endemic to sheep, cattle, horse, and pig in several countries, have been histologically and ultrastructurally characterized. An enzootic form of intranasal neoplasia has been reported in domestic animals, cattle, buffalo, goats, sheep, horses, and pigs in various parts of the world. These neoplasms arise from the ethmoidal region, are mostly epithelial, and are mostly adenocarcinomas, although sarcomas and benign epithelial lesions have been rarely observed. Gerbils treated with diethylnitrosamines showed variations in the type and number of epithelial neoplasms with routes of administration and dosage of carcinogen.
